Lower Towamensing Township will honor its deceased fire chief with a solemn symbol of remembrance.
Supervisor Michael Takerer said at Tuesday’s board of supervisors meeting that he was approached with a couple of ideas to honor longtime fire Chief Bill George.
The board agreed to lowering the flag to half-staff Friday through Monday in honor of the longtime chief and businessman.
Supervisors began Tuesday’s meeting with a moment of silence in honor of George’s passing.
George, who served as fire chief and president of the Aquashicola Fire Department, died on Saturday at St. Luke’s Carbon Campus. He was 74.
His death was considered in the line of duty because he fought fires the day before his death.
Calling hours will be 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Aquashicola Fire Hall, with services at 11 a.m. Friday at the fire company.
