With temperatures on the rise in the coming days and the Fourth of July holiday this weekend, people are going to be looking for places to cool off.

For Carbon County residents, as well as Mauch Chunk Lake Park season passholders and those who are camping at the park, the swimming area at the lake between Summit Hill and Jim Thorpe will be only available to them.

The county announced on its website this week that the lake and picnic access will again only be for them during the holiday weekend.

“Please have your driver’s license or season passes with you to show the rangers,” the county posted on its Facebook sites. “Fishing and boating will be open to general public. Boat rental will also be available for general public.”

This is the sixth year that Carbon County has limited the access on the Fourth of July holiday to just county residents. The reason is to allow people who live in the area with a place for them to go an enjoy family time.

In other matters, Mauch Chunk Lake Park will hold its Movie Night at the Beach on July 11, which had originally been scheduled for last weekend, but was postponed because of bad weather.

Bring lawn chairs and blankets for the free movie on the beach, which will begin at 8:45 p.m. The movie will be “The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature.”

Refreshments will be available for purchase.
