Lions Club presents scholarships, honors members

The Bowmanstown-Parryville Lions Club held its 50th Annual Charter Observance on June 15 at the Bowmanstown Volunteer Fire Company Hall.

After a dinner catered by Capriotti’s Inc., Lion Lyle Augustine Jr. welcomed all in attendance and introduced District Governor Elect Alicia Silliman, and honored guests.

The 2026 Scholastic Achievement Award recipients were announced: Taylor Serfass, Palmerton Area High School; Kyra Shorten, Lehighton Area High School; and Calli Peiffer, Carbon Career & Technical Institute (Lehighton — Health/Medical), and Gavin Smale (Palmerton — Drafting and Design Technology). Each recipient received a plaque and a $600 award.

Lions Loraine Neal and Jean Smith presented a Memorial Bible to Lion Raymond Nunemacher and his daughter, Heather Zellner, in memory of Lion Kathy J. Nunemacher, who passed away on April 27.

Lion Kathy was a member since 2003, a past president, a club chaplain, and a recipient of both the Lions of PA Foundation Fellowship and the Melvin Jones Fellowship.

District Governor Elect Alicia Silliman presented the Lions of Pennsylvania Foundation Fellowship to Lion Brenda L. Snyder in recognition of her dedicated service to Fellowship, the Bowmanstown community, and Lionism.

Silliman installed the following officers for the 2026-2027 Lion Year:

• President: Norman A. Engle Jr.

• First Vice President: Brianna N. Riggio

• Second Vice President: Jennifer M. Schlegel

• Secretary: Ruth Mary Augustine

• Treasurer: Lyle A. Augustine Jr.

• Lion Tamer: Ronald M. Engle

• Tail Twister: Jean F. Smith

• Chaplain: Ruth Mary Augustine

• Board of Directors (two-year term): Jean F. Smith, Joseph L. Herzog, Brenda L. Snyder, Curtis A. Hunsicker, Loraine K. Neal; (one-year term): Linda K. Billig, Brianna N. Riggio, Larry D. Engle, Anne Cech, Ruth Ann Hunsicker

• Membership/Nominating Committee (three-year term): Ronald M. Engle, co-chairperson; Lyle Augustine Jr., co-chairperson; Brianna N. Riggio and Jennifer M. Schlegel, members; and Joseph L. Herzog, alternate.
