William Mack, the newly hired principal at the Carbon Career & Technical Institute, gave his first report at the monthly meeting of the Joint Operating Committee.
“I made myself available to students, by greeting them as they entered the building at their morning bus drop-off and then wished them goodbye at dismissal time,” Mack reported.
Mack also attended two teacher in-service days, where he formally introduce himself and told them about his background.
Mack said he had a chance to visit the SHINE summer program being held at the school.
He said they were introduced to Ben Hartranft, president of Benergy1 “ who gave an uplifting and informational presentation on his experiences of life on the autism spectrum.”
“Also in attendance was Ben’s mother, father and brother, who answered questions from the faculty and staff in attendance, following Ben’s presentation. There were moments when Ben made us laugh and almost cry, but he also provided us with invaluable insights from the perspective of a student living with autism.”
Mack plans to continue to familiarize himself with the school grounds and work with the various teachers and staff.
The JOC voted to appoint William Mack, principal, as the school safety and security coordinator.
