Residents throughout portions of Lehighton will see a temporary water service interruption with boil advisories for affected addresses to be distributed.
The Lehighton Water Authority posted on its Facebook page Monday morning that North Third Street would be closed from Coal Street to Cypress Street while it repaired water service.
A few hours later, the Lehighton Water Authority posted there will be a temporary service interruption until further notice in the affected areas of the intersections of Third and Coal, Third and North/Mahoning, and Fourth and Coal.
“We’ll be taking samples (Tuesday) and Wednesday, and they’ll be taken to the lab,” the Lehighton Water Authority responded to a question that asked if it’s safe yet. “It’ll be a few days before results are received. Paper notices will be distributed when boil advisory is lifted.”
Contacted this morning, borough Manager Dane DeWire explained what may have caused the situation.
“From what I understand, the Catholic Church on the corner of Third and Coal was having some work done on their water service and asked the Lehighton Water Authority to shut off the water, and it caused an issue in the street which affected parts of the north end of town for several hours,” DeWire said.
