Traffic switch tonight on I-80

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in coordination with Bridging Pennsylvania Developers I will implement a traffic switch tonight on Interstate 80 as part of the I-80 Lehigh River Bridge Project in Carbon and Luzerne counties.

At 9 p.m., weather permitting, the contractor will shift the current I-80 eastbound traffic to the left to place a latex modified concrete overlay on the right side of the new eastbound bridge.

Motorists should expect a short-term lane closure during the traffic switch.

Drivers should remain alert for changing traffic patterns, follow all posted signs and allow extra time when traveling through the area.

The I-80 bridge is being replaced in both directions over the Lehigh River, Lehigh Gorge State Park, Reading & Northern Railroad and River Road in East Side Borough, Carbon County and White Haven Borough, Luzerne County.

The project, with a cost of $148 million, is expected to be competed in the summer of 2028.

This project is part of the ongoing PennDOT Major Bridges P3 Program. Motorists can check conditions on major roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com, which is free and available 24 hours a day.
