Rush Township will soon have a new secretary and treasurer.
At Thursday’s meeting, supervisors appointed Kayla Mickalowski to the joint roles.
She will receive a rate of $24 per hour.
The motion to appoint her is contingent upon her obtaining a bond from the bonding company.
Mickalowski will take over for Janel Moyer, who will resign from the position on June 29.
Moyer was hired by the board in March. Supervisor George Gerhard said she is leaving for another position.
The board, however, voted to retain Moyer on a part-time basis to train Mickalowski at a rate of $25 per hour.
Asked how long she might be on hand to train Mickalowski, Chairman George Gerhard said it won’t be a 40-hour per week job.
Instead, he said, she will be brought in as needed.
Resident Steve Rimbey questioned the pay rate for Mickalowski, who does not have a municipal background.
Gerhard said that while the township might receive dozens of applications for an advertised position, only a handful are qualified.
Those applicants, he said, might be making up to $50 per hour, and would not leave their current positions for a job that pays less.
As a result, Gerhard said, the township has to make a competitive offer in order to get the job filled.
