Northern Lehigh receives $10K donation for backpacks
Northern Lehigh School District has received several generous donations.
Superintendent Matthew J. Link, Ed.D., recognized those contributions during last week’s school board meeting.
“For the second time this year, the Lehigh Valley Educators Credit Union has donated $10,000 to support our Back Pack Buddies Program,” Link said. “This program helps ensure that students have access to food and nutritional support when they’re families are experiencing, or maybe at risk of experiencing food insecurity.”
Link said that with this latest contribution, the Credit Union has donated a total of $20,000 to support Back Pack Buddies during the 2025-2026 school year and into the 2026-2027 school year.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Lehigh Valley Educators Credit Union’s generosity and commitment to supporting the well-being of our students and families.”
Additionally, Link said that as a result of a grocery store gift card drive organized by New Tripoli Bank, the bank donated $500 in gift cards that can be distributed to students and families in need to help combat food insecurity.
“We’re incredibly grateful to both of these local banking institutions for thinking of the Northern Lehigh community and the students we serve,” he said. “Your generosity and commitment to supporting our families makes a meaningful difference in the lives of our students.”
Link also acknowledged the donation of a trumpet valued at around $700 to the Slatington Elementary School music program.
He said the instrument was donated by Mary Ann Mattiola, Slatington Elementary ELDP Teacher.
“The music department is grateful for this thoughtful contribution and (her) support of our young musicians,” he said.
Act 35 perfect scores
Link said 7 of the 110 students that recently took the Act 35 Civics Knowledge Exam earned perfect scores.
He said those included sophomores: Mya Desousa, Beckett Fox, Andrew Mohrey, Rylee Penick, Brenna Muscarella, Landen Ager and junior Garrett Smoyer.
“Congratulations to each of these outstanding students for this impressive achievement,” Link said.
