State police at Frackville - crashes
State police at the Frackville barracks reported the following crashes:
• Police said a 5-year-old boy from New Philadelphia was injured after he ran into the side of a moving vehicle at 3:55 p.m. May 30 on Coal Street in Blythe Township.
He was transported by his mother to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-East, Pottsville.
Police said the boy ran into the roadway in an area without a crosswalk and struck the passenger side of a 2015 Dodge Ram truck operated by David E. Mealing, 61, of Schuylkill Haven, who was driving on Coal Street, near the intersection with Wood Street.
The vehicle was not damaged, police said.
• No one was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 8:34 p.m. May 31 on Interstate 81 in Delano Township.
Police said the crash occurred when a 2016 Toyota Corolla traveling south struck a deer that had entered the highway from the wooded median.
The car had functional damage and was driven from the scene. Police did not identify the driver.
• Robert C. Weller Jr., 48, of Barnesville, was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed after a two-vehicle crash at 3:18 p.m. June 3 on Hazel Street, Delano Township. No one was injured in the incident.
Police said he was driving a 2011 Ford F-250 east and struck a 2026 Toyota Tacoma driven west by Alejando Pinero, 63, of Delano, where the lanes narrowed.
Police said the F-250 had functional damage, while the Tacoma had disabling damages and was towed from the scene.
• Christopher Warkola, 33, two 8-year-old boys, all of Pottsville, and Jazmin M. Molina Rivas, 21, of Auburn, had minor injuries after a two-vehicle crash at 4:51 p.m. June 4 at the intersection of the Burma Road and Brockton Mountain Drive, Ryan Township.
Police said the trio from Pottsville was transported by personnel from the Tamaqua Community Ambulance Association to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-East, Pottsville, while Molina Rivas did not require an emergency medical services transport from the scene.
Police said the incident occurred as Warkola was driving a 2011 Buick Lacrosse when he attempted to turn left onto the Burma Road from Brockton Mountain Road, failing to yield to a 2017 Subaru Legacy driven east on the Burma Road by Molina Rivas.
They said the front of the Legacy hit the left side of the Lacrosse, resulting in both vehicles having sustained disabling damage. They were towed from the scene.
Warkola was cited after the crash, according to police.
Samantha Warkola, 27, also of Pottsville, who was a passenger in the Lacrosse with the boys, was uninjured in the crash.
• One driver was cited after a two-vehicle crash at 7:59 p.m. June 4 on Interstate 81 in Kline Township.
Police did not identify the driver of the 2018 Honda CRV that impacted a 2020 Hino truck as both vehicles were southbound.
The vehicles had minor damage and were driven from the scene.
