Urgent Care vs. ER vs. Injury Center vs. Virtual
These days there are more options for illness and injury care through Lehigh Valley Health Network, part of Jefferson Health.
Choosing the right one will help you get the most appropriate care in the shortest amount of time.
Here’s a quick guide to familiarize you with what’s available.
Virtual visits
All our virtual avenues keep you safe at home as our clinicians determine if you should be seen in person. Options include:
• Same Day/Next Day Video Visit with a primary care clinician
• On-demand JeffConnect Video Visit with an urgent care clinician
• E-Visit, available through MyLVHN, to consult with a clinician via an interactive questionnaire
• Our 24/7 nurse line at 888-402-LVHN, option 4, for medical or care questions
To learn what conditions are appropriate, visit LVHN.org/virtualvisits.
JeffExpress and ExpressCARE
When you need to see a doctor in person, convenient JeffExpress Urgent Care locations, as well as two Children’s ExpressCare locations, are open seven days a week. Your nearest urgent care locations in our area are JeffExpress Urgent Care–Lehighton, 1205 Blakeslee Blvd., Drive E., and JeffExpress Urgent Care–Palmerton, 528 Delaware Ave.
Walk-ins are welcome and our Save My Spot feature lets you select an appointment time. Check wait times at all JeffExpress locations at LVHN.org/JeffExpress.
Emergency room
When you’re faced with a serious health concern that requires immediate care, the emergency department at your local Jefferson/Lehigh Valley hospital is the best choice. Your closest emergency room is at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Carbon, 2128 Blakeslee Blvd., Drive E., Lehighton.
Visit LVHN.org/emergency for conditions that require the ER.
Orthopedic Injury Centers
If you have a muscle tear or a knee injury, you can be seen without an appointment by an orthopedic expert at one of our Orthopedic Injury Centers. Our team specializes in treating non-life-threatening orthopedic injuries that occurred within the last 48 hours.
Learn what conditions are appropriate at LVHN.org/medical-services/orthopedic-injury-centers.
All other orthopedic care is available by appointment at LVPG Orthopedics and Sports Medicine–Carbon, located in the Health Center at Carbon.
