Tamaqua man faces DUI on ATV

A Tamaqua man is facing a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol following a 9:45 p.m. May 27 incident.

Police said Brandon Kehs, 30, was operating an all-terrain vehicle on borough streets and drove it past several stop signs without coming to a stop.

Officers were able to follow the vehicle and spoke to pedestrians who saw Kehs park it in a garage on Elm Street.

Police spoke to Kehs, who they said had an odor of alcohol on his breath, slurred speech and trouble walking. He admitted to having nine vodka drinks but, according to police, said, “to a normal person it would be like three drinks because I’m an alcoholic.”

Police took Kehs into custody. He refused field sobriety tests and was taken to St. Luke’s Miners Campus in Coaldale for a blood-alcohol test.
