Write-ins bring Heffley opponent

Incumbent state Rep. Doyle Heffley will have an opponent in the November election after an area resident’s write-in campaign netted him enough votes to be placed on the Democratic ticket.

The Carbon County Election Bureau finished adjudicating all write-ins Wednesday evening, releasing the final unofficial election figures on the county website.

In the 122nd seat, there had been no Democrats on the primary ticket, however Christian Bartulovich ran a successful write-in campaign, netting 483 votes and securing a spot on the ballot. He and Heffley will now face off in the General Election.

Bartulovich also received several additional write-in votes; however, his name was spelled in various ways and were each counted as a separate candidate.

“We did it!” Bartulovich posted on his Facebook page. “And these are just the write-ins that were spelled perfectly. Tack on another 71 for a total of 554, including the misspellings. On top of this, we secured 348 write-ins on the Republican ticket.”

On primary election day, Heffley received 4,374 votes on the GOP ticket.

In the write-ins, Heffley also received 384 votes on the Democratic side.
