Local Roundup: Results from May 2 & 3
Home runs helped Northwestern win baseball games on both Saturday and Sunday.
The Tigers blanked Northern Lehigh on Saturday, and then defeated Jim Thorpe on Sunday.
BASEBALL
Northwestern-Jim Thorpe
Luke Marazzo belted a grand slam in the third inning Sunday to help lead Northwestern to a 9-6 Colonial League victory over Jim Thorpe.
Marazzo smacked his hit to left field as part of the Tigers’ six-run third frame. Devin Rex also had a two-run single for Northwestern, which made the most of its four hits.
The Tigers ran wild on the basepaths, swiping eight bases. Rex, Ethan Dynda and Cole Dynda each stole two bases, and Brandon Gonzalez and Jake Carson both registered one.
Brody Schrantz had two hits and three RBIs, Cole Lazorick rapped three hits, and Tyler Hoherchak — who started the game — had two hits for Thorpe.

Cole Dynda blasted two home runs on Saturday to help lift Northwestern to a 13-0 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.
Dynda took a pitch to left field for a two-run blast in the second inning, and followed that with a three-run shot to left in the fourth. He also had a double in his first at-bat in the second.
The Tigers’ Devin Rex added a double, a walk, three runs and two RBIs.
Landen Cougle accounted for the Bulldogs’ only hit with a double in the third inning.

Lehighton-Palmerton
A five-run seventh inning helped Lehighton pull out a 6-2 Colonial League win over Palmerton.
Locked in a 1-1 game, Konner Nalesnik and Brayden Ulshafer both led off the seventh with singles. After a walk, Chase Llewellyn singled home the go-ahead run. Cole Dietz also delivered a two-run single during the frame.
Dietz earned the victory by pitching a four-hitter. He didn’t allow any walks and struck out four.
Llewellyn, Dietz and Nalesnik all finished with two hits for the Indians.
The Bombers’ Cameron Pengelly ended with two hits. He also started on the mound and struck out seven in 4 1/3 innings.

Lehighton-Palmerton
Grace Schneider drove in three runs, and Haily Barry and Olivia Kalman each had three hits apiece as Palmerton rolled to a 14-3 Colonial League victory over Lehighton.
The Blue Bombers took control with a five-run second inning helped by Schneider and Kyle Trumbore, who both had two-run singles.
Schneider, Tessa Sander and Jaylin Strohl all had two hits, and Peyton Graver knocked in two runs for Palmerton, which recorded 17 hits.
Winning pitcher Hailey George allowed five hits and three runs while striking out seven in five innings.
For the Indians, Amy Trach had two hits and two RBIs. Amber Yeakel added a pair of hits.

Marian exploded for eight runs in the third inning to seal a 12-2 non-league victory over winless Executive Education.
Kayla Birrer and Emily Upanavage combined to hold Executive Education to one hit. Birrer threw three innings, allowing the lone hit with six strikeouts and four walks, while Upanavage went three hitless frames with five strikeouts.
Maggie Turrano’s two-run double highlighted the big inning for the Fillies, who won for the fifth time in their last six games.
Birrer and Marina Lechtner both knocked in two runs. Deanna Pugh and Hailey Treskolasky each added two hits.
