Rush police say Rt. 309 crash caused by attempted illegal turn

Rush Township police said a crash occurred on April 14 on Route 309 in Hometown as a result of an illegal turn.

Police said the crash occurred just after 11 a.m. when Philip English, of Erie, attempted to make an illegal U-turn on the busy road, which is also Claremont Avenue.

As he turned from the southbound lane to the northbound lane, he entered the path of oncoming traffic.

At that point, English’s vehicle was struck by a northbound vehicle driven by Michael Hodge, of Tamaqua.

Police said that Hodge suffered minor injuries and was taken by Tamaqua EMS to St. Luke’s Miners Campus in Coaldale.

English and his passenger were uninjured. Police cited English for making an unsafe U-turn.

Both vehicles had disabling damage and were towed from the scene.

Earlier reports from the scene of the crash were incorrect.
