Pl. Valley middle school presents Broadway medley
The Pleasant Valley Middle School is getting ready for their performance of MTI’s Broadway Junior Review — Pure Imagination tonight, Saturday and Sunday.
The show is a compilation of the best songs from some of the top musicals and shows, such as “Shrek,” “Junie B. Jones,” “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” “Seusical,” “Frozen” and many more.
“I’m really excited about the show,” said Rhonda Sawyer, the director, Drama Club adviser and a teacher at the middle school. “We did the musical review and it’s challenging for the students because they’re switching from one scene to the next and they’re in completely different character, in completely different settings. It takes a lot of concentration, physical stamina and vocal stamina and they’ve just done a really good job. I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
Eighth-grader Meghan Worden said she was disappointed when she heard that the musical was a mix of numbers and shorter, but “as soon as the magic was brought onto the stage it was a lot funner than I was anticipating. It’s really good musicals, and it’s the best songs in the musicals, too.”
Sawyer explained that, “We have a little bit of a shorter period to put on a show, so doing a full junior show was not feasible for this year.”
Eighth-grader Thomas Cline, who plays several parts of which one is Willy Wonka, said he really likes his character. “I like suits, top hats and canes and I get all of that in one character,” he said.
Eighth-grader Colton Kieffer, who also is in eighth grade, doesn’t have any big parts in the show — he’s a cloud and waves flags — but that’s perfectly fine with him. He’s the stage manager. It’s his first time in the “role.”
“I like to be the stage manager because I get to do a lot,” Kieffer said. “I like all the technology stuff.”
Kieffer said there have been some challenges, like when the power went out. But the most rewarding part of it, he said, has been being able to “hang out” with his friends.
Also in the cast are: Isabella Anthony, Kaylin Arnold, Kennedy Beim, Norah Bird, Kevin Blomberg, Lily Blundetto, Brandon Brown, Declan Brown, Doris Chen, Riley Cline, Keyli Cuautla, Temperance DeFluri, Gary Dobrinsky, Grayson Doran, Carter Dorshimer, Lucas Fego, Kayla Finn, Elleigh Flynn, Allie Fors, Audrey Freyer, Emilee Gearl, Aria Hamill, Abigail Johnston, Noah Kieffer, Liam Kuehner, Charlie Linford, Abigail Lowell, Mazzy Monroe, Madisyn Mozelesky, Zoe Pasqua, Jaxsen Perez, Amara Perrotte, Harper Polles, Sophia Radley, Sophia Reed, Tanner Roth, Zoey Shorkey, Anna Smith, Emily Smith, Lily Sullivan, Madison Temos, and Juliana Torres.
Show times are 7 p.m. today and Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday in the gymnasium of the middle school. Tickets cost $7 for adults, $5 for students, and free for children under three years old.
The students encourage everyone to come out to the show.
Eighth-grader Gabriella DeRosa said, ““It’s very energetic and exciting. It will definitely have you knocked off your seats.”
