Carbon Co. gears up for 250th celebration

As Carbon County gears up for a plethora of celebrations leading up to America’s 250th anniversary on July 4, the county commissioners are urging residents to get involved, whether by attending a meeting or just attending a planned event.

Last month, the board announced that a schedule of events has been posted on the county’s website, highlighting a number of events happening through November around the county.

Events include a boat regatta a Baer Memorial Pool in Lehighton; the Cressona Band in Nequehoning; an America250PA mobile unit visit at movie, as well as the National Army Band performing in Lansford; the Fourth of July parade in Weissport and more.

“There’s a lot of events going on throughout the county over the next few months,” Commissioners’ Chairman Mike Sofranko said. “Get out and support all those nonprofits.”

“Please get on (the county website) and read through (the events,” Sofranko said, “because as it gets updated, you’re going to be very proud of what a lot of nonprofit organizations throughout the county have come to do. Support them.”
