“Celebrate Conservation” was the theme of this year’s Carbon County Conservation District Annual Poster Contest held in Courtroom No. 1 of the Carbon County Courthouse, Jim Thorpe.

First place winners were: Emma Sawyer, 7, a student at Franklin Elementary School; Peter Phelan, 8, who attends Mahoning Elementary School; Hayley Sawyer, 11, a Lehigh Area Middle School student; and Jamie Walcheski, 13, of St. John Neumann School, Palmerton. Each of them received a certificate, ribbon and cash prize.

Their posters will be sent to Harrisburg to be judged by the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts.

Judges were Diane Miller Graver, leader of a local 4-H livestock club, and local storyteller Kathy Long.
