Kyle Merenda, 31, of Barnesville, was charged with assault with a weapon and other counts after an incident at 3:40 p.m. April 25 at 57 Shady Lane, Ryan Township, state police at the Frackville barracks said.

Merenda was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley, Pottsville, and committed to the Schuylkill County Prison, Pottsville, in lieu of $25,000 cash bail.

Police said the victims of the assault are a 32-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy, both from Mahanoy City.

They said the assault involved a knife and that Merenda retreated inside the residence and barricading himself in a bedroom.

A state police Special Emergency Response Team was activated, after which Merenda was taken into custody.

A preliminary hearing for Merenda is scheduled for May 6 before Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli, Frackville.
