Bowman camp sells cookbook, more at borough yard sale

The community of Bowmanstown held its annual yard sale Saturday. Bowmanstown Area Residents Connected hosted the sale, which has taken place for over a decade.

Both sellers and buyers braved the all-day rain, with items for sale being taken inside garages and displayed under tents.

“After all these years of the yard sale, a little rain won’t stop us,” said Kara Scott, a resident of Bowmanstown and member of BARC.

Registered homes were selling Gertrude Hawk candy bars as fundraisers for various community projects. Donations to the Bowmanstown Area Fire Company were made through its boot drop.

Bowman Park Camp, located at 220 Lime St., held a used-book and bake sale.

All the baked good items sold out, with items like lemon cookies, brownies and pieces of cake on the menu. Hundreds of used books, all donated from various sources, were also sold throughout the day.

Bowman Park members were proud to present their new cookbook, titled Blessings and Biscuits, for sale. The cookbook costs $25 and features Pennsylvania Dutch-inspired recipes.

“A lot of love went into the pages of the cookbook,” said Bowman Park member Jessica Hamm.

Like the book sale event, all proceeds from the cookbook go into the park fund.

This coming Saturday, May 2, Bowman Park Camp is hosting a Food, Fun and Outreach Festival for families. The festival will have a bounce house, carnival games, crafts, and more.

“The Bowman Park Camp is a huge part of our lives and our community. We grew up here,” Hamm added.

There’s also an Open-Air Tabernacle for adults happening this summer at the Bowman Park, at 7 p.m. on Sundays in July.

Youth and children’s camps start in July and run through August.
