Tamaqua library thanks staff, borough for tree removal

The Tamaqua Public Library thanked borough workers for their recent help.

A letter penned by Mary Linkevich, president of the Tamaqua Public Library Board, commended the employees for removing a large tree that recently toppled onto the library’s roof.

They also cleaned debris from a bank behind the 30 S. Railroad St. building, she noted.

“We are so grateful,” Linkevich said.

In the note to Tamaqua Borough Council, she added that April 19-25 is National Library Week and encouraged all to register for a free library card.

While at the library, she asked all to thank staff members in observance of the April 21 National Library Workers Day.

Also during the recent meeting, borough council:

• Appointed Tom Schlorf to a vacant position on the borough’s Civil Service Commission.

• Approved a request from Jack Cusatis of the Ryan Township Fire Company to provide fire police assistance to the Schuylkill County Firemen’s Convention parade on Aug. 22 from the Ryan company in Barnesville.

• Approved closing a portion of Oak Street near the South Ward Playground for a 6 p.m. June 14 block party featuring the third annual “Beat Down in the Playground” free professional wrestling show. Lee Culkins, playground volunteer, also requested police presence during the event.

• Gave permission to the Citizens Fire Company to hold its annual bazaar on June 27 and temporarily close nearby portions of Hegarty Avenue and Rowe streets. The fire company will hold its apparatus parade at 6 p.m. June 27.
