Local Roundup: Results from April 24
Jim Thorpe’s baseball and Pleasant Valley’s softball teams had big seventh innings to pull out wins on Friday.
The Olympians downed Panther Valley with a three-run seventh, while the Bears tallied six times in their final at-bat to rally past Pocono Mountain East.
In other action, Lehighton’s baseball squad upset Northwestern.
BASEBALL
Jim Thorpe-Panther Vy.
Brody Schrantz’s two-run triple in the top of the seventh helped Jim Thorpe seal a 5-2 non-league victory over Panther Valley, snapping a five-game losing streak.
Schrantz’s hit snapped a 2-2 tie and Michael Antignani followed with an RBI single to complete the three-run frame.
Danny Wehr’s walk in the home second, and Brody Breiener’s ground out in the home fourth accounted for Panther Valley’s runs.
Wehr had two hits for the Panthers, who dropped their fourth straight.
Cole Lazorick added two hits for the Olympians.

Lehighton-Northwestern
Chase Llewellyn and Cole Dietz combined on a two-hitter to lead Lehighton to a 1-0 Colonial League victory over Northwestern.
Llewellyn left the game with a no-hitter after five innings, striking out six and walking seven over 94 pitches.
Dietz allowed both hits over the final two innings.
Logan Bellis provided Lehighton’s offense with a solo homer in the top of the fourth to help the Indians end a five-game losing streak.
Northwestern’s Griffin Unrath went the distance for the Tigers, allowing the lone run and just three hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
Bellis, Cash White and Jayse Lawrence had hits for Lehighton, and Luke Marrazo and Tanner Fronina had hits for Northwestern, which had a three-game winning streak snapped.

Pleasant Valley-PM East
Pocono Mountain East scored four runs in the first inning and maintained the lead the rest of the way in posting a 5-2 EPC victory over Pleasant Valley.
Alexander Stirr had the big hit in the first for the Cardinals, delivering a two-run double. Devon Jackson also contributed an RBI double.
Sebastian James earned the win, allowing no earned runs and striking out three in four innings.
Ty Borger pitched well in defeat for the Bears, going the distance and giving up three earned runs while fanning five.
PV received a double and an RBI from Brayden Green, while Owen Walters had a hit and a run.

SOFTBALL

PM East
Pleasant Valley had a huge comeback to gain a 9-8 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over host Pocono Mountain East.
The Bears trailed 8-3 heading to the seventh inning but rallied for six runs and then kept the Cardinals scoreless in the bottom of the frame.
Bella Altemose drove in the first run of the big seventh with an RBI single and Mia Battaglino followed with a two-run double to make it 8-6.
After a single by Emma DePalma and a walk to Rylee Green loaded the bases, Lila Borger doubles to chase home all three runners to give PV the lead.
Green then retired the side in order to seal the win.
Borger, DePalma and Battaglino all finished with three hits. Borger had four RBIs, and DePalma scored three runs and had a triple.
All three of Battaglino’s hits were doubles. Altemose chipped in with a pair of hits.
