Carbon Career & Technical Institute

The Joint Operating Committee of the Carbon Career & Technical Institute in Jim Thorpe approved the following actions at the board meeting last week:

• Kristen Powis and Rhina Rivera approved as CCTI Summer Career Academy Instructors at a rate of $30 per hour, and as van drivers, as needed, at $25 per hour. TThe costs are covered by the Perkins Grant.

• Eric Bott approved as a substitute for the 2025-2026 school year through August 2026, as Custodial/Maintenance/Groundskeeper/Cleaner.

• Jo Lynn Gazo and Jeremy Pease, homebound instructors on an as needed basis

• Joey Roetz as an adult education GED Instructor at a rate of $24 hour on an as needed basis effective March 20 through April 2027.

• Harold Resh as an adult education instructor on an as needed basis, as a rate of $26 per hour effective April 22, through April 2027.

• Thirteen graphic design students approved to attend the Pennsylvania College of Technology’s “Graphic Designers Day” May 1 in Williamsport. The event will be chaperoned by Mark Barthel, graphic design instructor and JamiLynn Johannsen, assistant to the director of technology/student support services.

• Ffour Drafting & Design Technology students to attend Dorney Park’s “Engineering Day” May 8 in Allentown. The event will be chaperoned by Jeremy Pease, DDT Instructor.

• One Health Medical student and one advisor attend the HOSA International Leadership Conference (competition) June 17 – June 21 in Indianapolis, in the amount of $4,400 to cover the cost of registration, transportation, lodging, and meals. Donna McClain, Health Medical Instructor/HOSA Advisor will chaperone this event. Advisor cost is $2,200. Student cost is $2,200.00; $1,200.00 of student cost will be offset by fundraising and donations. $1,000.00 will be taken from the School Sponsored Student Activities fund. The Activities Fund balance is $12,000.00.

That one SkillsUSA student and one advisor attend the SkillsUSA National Competition June 1 – June 6 in Atlanta, GA in the amount of $3,000 to cover the cost of registration, transportation, lodging, and meals. Josh Reif, SkillsUSA Advisor will chaperon this event. Advisor cost is $1,500 Student cost is $1,500; $1,000 of the student cost will be offset by fundraising and donations. $500 will be taken from the School Sponsored Student Activities fund. The Activities Fund balance is $12,000.

• Jeremy Pease, drafting & design technology instructor attend the SkillsUSA National Competition June 1 - 6, in Atlanta, Ga., in the amount of $471.80 to cover the cost of transportation and meals. Funds from the Drafting & Design Technology Transportation budget will be used to cover the costs. The DDT Transportation Fund balance is $2,000.

• The purchase of three Building Construction Illustrated, 7th Edition for the drafting design & technology class at a cost of $128.49.

• Agreement with Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit #21 for participation in the Technology in Education Legal Counsel Consortium if available and offered for the 2026-2027 fiscal year.

Sweet, Stevens, Katz & Williams, LLP is offering this service on a consortium basis through CLIU 21. The Technology Counsel Consortium provides proactive strategies, training and model policies designed to prevent digital-age problems that can lead to liability. The overall pricing is anticipated to be $550 based on the number of participants.

• Appoint the law firm of King, Spry, Herman, Freund & Faul, LLC for specialized work for the 2026-2027 fiscal year on an as needed basis.
