Access road closed to St. Luke’s Miners

Work on a street that is an access to St. Luke’s Miners Campus in Coaldale began recently.

As a result, Kline’s Hill (Phillips Street) is closed.

The road is the primary access route for vendors, suppliers and more than 500 hospital employees.

The borough received $644,418 in funding from the Appalachian Regional Commission for the project.

Work includes reconstructing the road and adding amenities for pedestrian and transit access. It includes narrowing the roadway to reduce speeds and constructing a pedestrian walking route.

Coaldale partnered with the hospital to develop the project. Plans for the project have been underway for a number of years.

The Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance, on behalf of the Appalachian Regional Commission and the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, assisted the borough in securing the grants.
