Coaldale reminds residents about dogs
Coaldale’s secretary has been going through borough ordinances that deal with quality of life issues.
As Kim Gavornik does so, she reminded residents of some of them at council’s recent meeting.
She said that all dogs have to be licensed and leashed.
“If your dog is running at large, you’re getting cited,” Gavornik said.
She also noted that under borough ordinance, it is the responsibility of owners to dispose of their dog’s waste — including any waste in their yard. Dogs also have to be current in their vaccinations.
“I suggest if you have a pet, come up and read it,” Gavornik said of the ordinance, which is available at borough hall and on the borough’s website.
Gavornik also noted that an ordinance prohibits storing vehicles in yards as some residents do. Vehicles need to have valid registrations.
There is also an ordinance that prohibits parking vehicles in the same spot for more than 72 hours.
Mayor Daniel Weiksner said he doesn’t want people to panic, thinking that their vehicles will automatically be towed if they don’t move them.
“We’re just trying to avoid people that are parking cars and abandoning them for months,” he said.
If a vehicle will be left in the same place because of a vacation or other issue, he suggested contacting the borough.
The borough will also be seeing some upcoming spring cleaning.
Street sweeping will begin within the next several weeks, Gavornik said. The borough plans to advertise the schedule on Facebook, and streets will be posted. Residents are reminded to move their vehicles from the posted streets.
The borough’s communitywide spring cleanup is May 2.
Council also continues to seek a high school student from the borough who is interested in serving as a junior council member.
Council President Rose Hoban said she contacted Panther Valley and Marian high schools but hasn’t heard any response.
She said anyone who is interested should contact the borough.
Hoban said that she would be inspecting Hometown Heroes banners and will return worn and faded banners to families. Banners that are still legible will be displayed in the borough.
It was also noted that the communitywide yard sale will be held April 25 and 26 with a rain date of May 9 and 10. An additional yard sale will be held May 16 and 17.
