Convenience store, ice machine planned in Brodheadsville

A new type of vending is coming to Chestnuthill Township, promising the “freshest, most hygienic ice and water available.”

The size of two parking spaces, the machines will have high-volume water and ice for purchase. The ice and water vending machine will be located at 1758 Route 209.

An unnamed convenience store will also be opening on Route 209, located on property across from Kresge Funeral Home.

Plans for the store are now under review by the planning commission.

The project is currently identified on the agenda as “Summit Realty — Proposed Convenience Store with Fueling.”

In other business news, Debbie and Glenn Hinton, owners of Concessions Elephant Ears food truck, told the township supervisors they have had their truck for 45 years.

For the past three years they paid $400 for a 12-day permit each year to have the truck at Heckman’s Orchard.

The Hintons expressed concern that they are seeing food trucks all over the township.

“It is not fair. There is no consistency and no one to enforce it on weekends,” Glenn Hinton said.

Chairman Chuck Gould noted that he will look into this situation.
