Two people were injured Friday in a crash in West Penn Township.

The crash occurred around 12:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Route 309.

A male operating a vehicle was traveling south and slowed down to make a right turn into the lot of Tamaqua Truck & Trailer when his vehicle was hit in the back by a vehicle driven by a female, who was also southbound.

The struck vehicle came to rest in the southbound lanes, while the other vehicle traveled across the roadway and came to rest in the northbound lanes.

Both drivers were treated at the scene by medics before being transported to an area trauma center.

Area fire police maintained traffic control at the crash scene, shutting down the roadway before opening one alternating lane. West Penn police are investigating the incident. COPYRIGHT LARRY NEFF/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS
