Two flown following weekend crashes

Two motorcyclists were seriously injured in separate crashes over the weekend.

The first crash occurred on Sunday afternoon in West Penn Township.

According to reports on the scene, the crash occurred around noon when the driver of a sport utility vehicle was making a left turn onto the parking lot of the West Penn Diner and the biker struck the SUV broadside.

The victim was treated at the scene by members of the Tamaqua ambulance and Lehighton paramedics before being flown from the scene by LifeFlight 6.

West Penn Township police are investigating the incident. Route 443 was shut down to traffic.

The second crash happened Sunday night in Coaldale around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Water and Second streets.

The biker was reported to be unconscious but breathing.

The victim was treated at the scene then flown by a medical transport helicopter to a Lehigh Valley area trauma center. Tamaqua police are investigating the incident.

Coaldale fire police maintained traffic control at the scene, shutting down Route 209.
