Man charged with assaulting companion
An Albrightsville man has been charged with assaulting his companion following an argument after the pair returned home from the hospital.
State police said the incident shortly after 11 p.m. March 29 at a home in the 100 block of Hunt Trail in Penn Forest Township.
According to court documents, the victim told troopers that he and Jake Werner, 25, are in a relationship and had just returned home from the hospital, where Werner had received treatment.
The man said Werner became angry, accusing him of not taking care of him, and the two began arguing.
The victim said that he went into the bathroom to get away, but Werner told him to return to the bedroom. The argument continued into the kitchen, where Werner allegedly shoved the man into a refrigerator.
The victim told police Werner then punched and kicked him. The victim said he was able to call 911 after Werner left the room.
According to the affidavit, Werner later returned, grabbed a knife, pointed it at the victim and said, “Look what you’re going to make me do,” before putting it down.
The man said Werner then picked up a device with a pointed end and repeatedly struck him, causing injuries to his head, back, arms and legs.
He reported that Werner broke his glasses and struck their dog while it was in a crate.
Werner was been charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, simple assault, aggravated cruelty to animals, harassment and criminal mischief.
He was held in Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 bail, which was subsequently posted, according to court records.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday before District Judge Eric M. Schrantz in Jim Thorpe.
