Albrightsville fire company holds flower sale

The sweet smell of hyacinths was rejuvenating as the Albrightsville Volunteer Fire Company held its annual Easter flower sale at Penn Point Plaza.

A bit of rain and fog didn’t stop customers from coming out to make their purchases.

The fire company has been holding flower sales for over 20 years, including every Easter and Mother’s Day.

Brightly colored hyacinths, mums, tulips and daffodils were available. Cindy Novato, Kidder Township secretary, picked out purple hyacinths. Her husband, Ed, said, “They remind me of my childhood. There were always hyacinths on my grandmother’s front porch and the smell brings me back. We take the bulbs and plant them and they come back forever.”

“You gotta get them from the firehouse,” said Molly McKee of Albrightsville.

McKee purchases one of each type of flower every year, noting, “I wait every year for this.”

Fire house member Denise Saraceno volunteers for the flower sale as “it’s a way for the community to support our volunteer fire company.”

Each year the flowers have sold out. It’s no wonder, getting to see a beautiful sign and smell of spring.

The firehouse holds bingo every Saturday starting at 6 p.m. Doors open at 4 p.m. Breakfast is held the first Sunday of every month from 7:30 a.m. to noon.
