Weatherly Science Olympiad team advances to states

The Weatherly Area Middle School Science Olympiad team advanced to the state competition following a regional competition at the Penn State Wilkes-Barre Campus last month.

The students competed in 23 events in all fields of science and engineering, placing in the top six and qualifying for the state competition.

The team is comprised of these students: Ismael Alamanzar, Stephen Delman, Evan Janiec, Corban Gerhard, Jameson DeLauretis, Zachary Hayes, Chase Bachert, Noelle Rambaran, Linda Houser, Maddie McGee, Rube Torgerson, Madison Sipler, Auri Rambaran, Lilli Sincavage, Madison Sincavage, Harrison DiGennaro, Elizabeth DiGennaro, Jillian Esposito, Dinah Janiec and Kaylee Harris.

Six team members also medaled in individual events. Winning medals were: Corban Gerhard and Zachary Hayes, third place, remote sensing; Elizabeth DiGennaro and Jillian Esposito, second place, meteorology; Zachary Hayes and Elizabeth DiGennaro, third place, potions and poisons; Corban Gerhard and Evan Janiec, third place, circuit lab; and Maddie McGee and Jillian Esposito, third place, disease detectives.

Top teams from across the state will compete on April 25 in Altoona in the state finals, hoping to advance further in this national STEM competition in California in May.
