One dead in W. Penn crash

One person is dead as the result of a single vehicle crash in West Penn township Friday night.

The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. along Route 443 about a mile west of Route 309 near the village of South Tamaqua.

A car traveling east reportedly struck a deer, went off the right berm and snapped off a utility pole. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene and a second flown from the scene by LifeFlight 6.

Area fire police maintained traffic control at the scene shutting down the roadway. West Penn township police are investigating the incident.
