Local Roundup: Results from April 1
It was a good day for area softball teams on Wednesday, as four clubs recorded victories.
Lehighton, Northern Lehigh, Tamaqua and Panther Valley all posted wins.
The Bulldogs’ baseball squad also triumphed, blanking Palisades.
BASEBALL
Northern Lehigh-Palisades
A strong start by Chris Vargas helped Northern Lehigh post an 8-0 Colonial League victory over host Palisades.
Vargas pitched six shutout innings, allowing just four hits and three walks while striking out three. Avery Kabrick tossed a scoreless seventh to complete the shutout.
Coy Daubert had two hits, one a double, and scored a pair of runs for the Bulldogs, who won their fourth consecutive game. Jayden Christman added two hits and an RBI.
Also contributing to the win were Parker Schaffer (single, two walks, two runs) and Landon Cougle (double, run, two RBIs).

SOFTBALL
Jim Thorpe-Lehighton
Lehighton extended its winning streak to three games, as the Indians earned a 7-2 Colonial League win over visiting Jim Thorpe.
Lehighton, which has won four of its last five games, was led offensively by Sophia Wise, Peyton Hausman and Morgan Myers.
Wise had a triple, a walk, three runs scored and two RBIs, while Hausman finished with a single, double and an RBI, and Myers added two singles, a pair of walks and two runs.
The Indians’ Ava Trach pitched a three-hitter, allowing no earned runs, walking two and striking out four.
For the Olympians, Kelsie Huff had two of her team’s three hits.

Northern Lehigh-Palisades
Annalisa Douglas and Kylee Snyder sparked a four-run sixth inning to help Northern Lehigh pull away from Palisades for a 9-1 Colonial League win.
Douglas led off the sixth inning with a home run to left, while Snyder capped the scoring in the inning with a two-run blast to center.
The Bulldogs’ Emily Gad finished with two singles, a walk and three runs. Addison Smith and Tegan Simms both chipped in with a pair of hits.
Catie Russo accounted for the Pirates’ only run with a first-inning homer.

Tamaqua scored multiple runs in every inning to earn a 13-3 non-league victory over Marian.
Nico Conahan had the big bat for the Blue Raiders, finishing with three singles, two runs and two RBIs.
Peyton Faust (two singles, run, four RBIs), Paige Bumbulsky (single, double, run, three RBIs), Molly Evans (two singles, two runs, two RBIs) and Mia Bamford (two singles, one run) all contributed offensively in the win.
Naomi Knitter gained the pitching win, allowing just three hits and two earned runs while striking out eight.
For the Fillies, Malina Letcher ended with two hits and an RBI.

Panther Valley ended a three-game losing streak, as the Panthers rolled to a 20-4 non-conference victory over Executive Education.
Janessa Prudente highlighted PV’s 11-run second inning with a two-run homer. Isabella D’Ancona capped the big frame with a three-run triple.
Ava Alabovitz (two singles, double, two runs, five RBIs), D’Ancona (single, triple, two runs, three RBIs) and Jovie Breiner (single, double, run, two RBIs) all added offensive support.

Catasauqua-Palmerton
Palmerton swept past Catasauqua in Colonial League action on Tuesday.
Payten Fornaro won three events to help the Blue Bomber girls roll to a 119-30 victory. The Palmerton boys captured the 1600 relay in a tight race to pull out a 77-72 win.
Fornaro took first in the 800, 1600 and 3200. Teammates Ruby Walters (100 and 300 hurdles) and Emma Rex (400, javelin) both added a pair of individual wins.
In the boys competition, Ezra Green won both the 1600 and 3200.
