Local roundup: Results from March 30

The Jim Thorpe, Lehighton, Marian, Northern Lehigh, Northwestern and Palmerton softball teams all came through with wins Monday, highlighted by a no-hitter and a mix of dominant and dramatic finishes.

SOFTBALL

NDES-Jim Thorpe

Madison Schwartz tossed a five-inning no-hitter, and did damage in the circle as Jim Thorpe rolled to a 14-1 mercy rule victory over Notre Dame East Stroudsburg.

Kylie Sullivan drove in four runs and finished with a double among her two hits, while Schwartz (double, two hits) and Hailey Zacharias (double, two RBIs) each scored three times.

Ryah Confer (three RBIs, run scored) and Isabella Sully (run scored) also collected two hits, and Gloria Strohl doubled with two RBIs and a pair of runs scored.

Schwartz allowed no hits and one unearned run over five innings, while striking out nine.

Palisades-Lehighton

Lehighton rallied for a dramatic 11-10 walk-off victory over Palisades in Colonial League action.

Sophia Wise delivered the game-winning hit with a two-run triple in the bottom of the seventh to cap the comeback. Wise also had a double, four runs scored and three RBIs, while Ava Trach (double, three RBIs) and Morgan Myers (two RBIs, three runs scored) each had three hits for the Indians.

Brynn Mriss doubled among her two hits and drove in a run.

Marian-Lourdes

Marian Catholic erupted for 18 runs over four innings in an 18-0 victory over Lourdes.

Deanna Pugh collected three hits – including two doubles – scored three times and drove in three runs, while Emily Upanavage added four RBIs on two hits and scored twice. Upanavage also earned the win in the circle, allowing two hits over four shutout innings with seven strikeouts.

Katie Knock doubled twice and scored a pair of runs, and Gracie Sendatch had a pair of hits, three runs scored and an RBI.

Salisbury-N. Lehigh

Northern Lehigh scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to earn a 5-4 walk-off Colonial League victory over Salisbury.

Fiona Jones delivered a key double in the final inning, and the winning run scored on an error. Tegan Simms also delivered a game-tying double on a full count in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game at 3-3.

Addison Smith earned the win, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits while striking out seven.

Northwestern-Saucon

Northwestern exploded for 11 runs in the top of the sixth inning to break the game open and secure an 18-4 Colonial League victory over Saucon Valley.

Abby Dunstan powered the Tigers with a huge day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a home run, triple, double, three runs scored and five RBIs.

Molly Schlofer added four hits – including a double – and four RBIs with two runs scored, while Ella Bressi tripled among her two hits and scored four runs and drove in three.

Natalie Conner (two RBIs, three runs scored, double) and Ainsley Behler (two doubles, three runs scored, RBI) each had two hits, while Lily Kinnon collected a double with two hits, an RBI and a run scored.

Emma Freeman earned the win in the circle, allowing four runs on six hits over six innings while striking out seven. She also had a hit, scored twice and drove in a run.

Palmerton erupted for nine runs in the third inning and rolled to a 15-0 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.

Grace Schneider drove in four runs, including a three-run homer, while Kyla Trumbore also had four RBIs on two hits, including a double. Samantha Wolfe doubled among her two hits and scored three runs for the winners, who also plated six runs in the second.

Hailey Barry tossed three shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out six.

BASEBALL

Palisades-Lehighton

Lehighton capitalized on Palisades’ miscues to edge the Pirates 7-5 for a Colonial League win.

In three of the innings the Indians scored, they capitalized on the five errors the Pirates committed. In the first, Lehighton plated three runs thanks to two of those errors — a pickoff miscue and a fielding error.

The Indians sealed the win in the sixth when an error proved costly. Cole Dietz reached on a throwing error, while Cash White and Konner Nalesnik scored the go-ahead and an insurance run on the same play.

Chase Llewellyn was the Indians’ lone multiple hitter, finishing with two singles and an RBI.

Teammates Aiden Solt and White each had a single and a walk, while Nalesnik walked and scored twice.

Anderson Hsu paced the Pirates with two singles, a walk and a run scored, while JR Curran added two singles.

Northwestern-Saucon

Northwestern scored in every inning to outlast Saucon Valley 12-9 in a Colonial League game.

While the Panthers held an edge in hits, the Tigers made the most of timely hitting for their fifth win of the season.

Ethan Konyak led the offense, as the Tigers’ No. 9 hitter finished with a single, double and three RBIs.

Evan Fatzinger added two singles and an RBI, while Devin Rex contributed a double, two walks, two runs scored and an RBI.

Nicholas Albanese paced the Panthers with two singles, a double, a walk and three runs scored.

Catasauqua used a four-run third inning to knock off Palmerton 6-3 in Colonial League play.

The Roughies capitalized on three walks in the inning, and got key hits from Joey Conway and Trever Hartzell. Conway delivered an RBI double, while Hartzell’s RBI single capped the scoring.

Palmerton struck out seven times against Alex Bolmer, and couldn’t capitalize on the six walks he issued.

Luke Matsko led the Bombers with a single, a walk and two runs scored.

Ben Negley (single, walk, RBI) and Gaige McGowan (two walks, RBI) also contributed.

Pleasant Valley used aggressive baserunning to beat Tamaqua 7-3 in a nonleague game.

The Bears swiped nine bases, with Ty Borger leading the way with three steals, a single and two runs scored.

Mason Goff was the Bears’ lone multiple hitter, finishing with two singles, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Gavin Bates added a single and two runs scored.

Jake Yenser and Gavin Edmonds each had two hits for Tamaqua. Yenser recorded two singles and an RBI, while Edmonds added two singles.

Madelyn Lagowy led the Tigers with three goals and two assists, while Caliana Colistra and Olivia Fagan each added two goals. Ashley Yacynych made eight saves in goal.
