March 30, 1977 — Joe Kavusak belts a grand slam homer during a six-run sixth inning to help Palmerton gain an 8-1 Centennial League victory over Pocono Mountain in its season opener. Kavusak ends the contest with two hits and five RBIs to back the pitching of Bob Kolnik. The winning hurler allows just two hits and a run while striking out 12 in six innings of work. Rod Strohl completes the two-hitter with a perfect seventh frame. The Blue Bombers, coached by Ted Plessl, also receive a pair of hits, a run and an RBI from Kerry Solt.
