Local Roundup: Results from March 28
Lehighton and Northern Lehigh both registered wins in both baseball and softball over the weekend.
The Indians teams defeated Salisbury, while the Bulldog squads downed Pen Argyl.
BASEBALL
Jim Thorpe-Palisades
Kaden Hess and Cole Lazorick combined on a five-hit shutout as Jim Thorpe earned a 7-0 Colonial League victory over Palisades.
Hess went six innings, allowing five hits while walking four and striking out two. Lazorick tossed a hitless seventh.
Lazorick and Noah Pastor each collected three hits and scored a pair of runs for the Olympians, who used a three-run first to grab an early lead. Zach Murphy and Tyler Hoherchak each added two hits, while Michael Antignani drove in three runs.

Lehighton-Salisbury
Chase Lehonten drew a walk-off walk in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Lehighton to an 11-10 Colonial League victory over Salisbury.
Logan Bellis’ single in the bottom of the seventh tied the game at 10 for the Indians. Bellis finished with three hits and three RBIs.
Braylon Hunsicker added two hits and three RBIs for the winners, while Aidan Solt also collected a pair of hits.
Luke Heydt earned the win for Lehighton, allowing one hit and striking out three over 4 1/3 innings of relief.
Nate Nunez had three hits and four RBIs for the Falcons.

Northern Lehigh-Pen Argyl
Northern Lehigh raced to a big lead early, saw that disappear and then rallied for a 9-8 extra-inning victory over Pen Argyl in Colonial League action.
After gaining a 5-1 first-inning advantage, the Knights rebounded and eventually took an 8-6 lead in the eighth. But the Bulldogs scored three runs in the home half on Parker Schaffer’s RBI single and Pablo Rivera’s walk-off, two-run double. Schaffer, who had two hits and drove in three runs, smacked a two-run double to highlight Northern Lehigh’s opening inning.
Brayden Buskirk scored two runs and had three hits and an RBI for Northern Lehigh. Jake Christman added two RBIs.

Southern Lehigh-Palmerton
In a battle of early-season undefeated teams, Southern Lehigh used a four-run sixth inning to pull away from Palmerton for a 9-2 Colonial League win.
The Blue Bombers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on Gaige McGowan’s RBI single. McGowan had two hits, while Ben Negley also drove in a run for Palmerton.
Southern Lehigh made the most of six walks and four Bomber errors.
Brandon Barone picked up the win in relief, producing four innings of three-hit, one-run ball with three strikeouts.

SOFTBALL
Salisbury-Lehighton
Ava Trach pitched a shutout to lead Lehighton to an 4-0 Colonial League win over Salisbury.
Trach, who scattered eight hits and struck out seven, received some early support as the Indians plated two runs in the first inning.
Sophia Wise collected a pair of hits, which included a triple and a fifth-inning homer. She knocked in three of the Indians’ four runs.
Amber Yeakel also chipped in with a hit and two runs.

Pen Argyl-Northern Lehigh
Northern Lehigh held off a late Pen Argyl rally, and the Bulldogs escaped with a 12-10 Colonial League victory.
Kaylee Snyder finished 3-for-3 with six RBIs for the Bulldogs, which included a three-run homer in the second inning. She also added a two-run double in the third as Nolehi jumped out to an 11-2 lead.
Emily Gad reached base in all four of her plate appearances, collecting two hits and walking twice, and scored all four times.
Tegan Simms (two singles, two runs) and Kenzie Chrusical (single, double, walk, run, two RBIs) both added multiple hits.

Hailey George struck out 12 to help lead Palmerton to a 7-2 Colonial League win over visiting Southern Lehigh.
The freshman pitcher tossed a three-hitter, allowed just one earned run and walked two.
Tessa Sander was a perfect 4-for-4 with three singles and a triple. The Bomber center fielder also scored two runs and had two RBIs.
Hailey Barry (three singles, two runs), Jaylin Strohl (two singles, run, RBI) and Samantha Wolfe (single, double, run, RBI) all contributed to the Palmerton victory.

Palisades cruised to a 16-3 Colonial League victory over Jim Thorpe.
Catie Russo knocked in seven runs for the Pirates, finishing with three hits — two of them doubles. She also scored twice.
The winners also received two hits and two runs from Brielle Hollander.
Gloria Strohl gave the Olympians an early 2-0 lead in the first inning with a two-run home run.
Thorpe’s Hannah Zacharias finished with two hits and a run.

Palmerton captured two of the singles matches to help gain a 3-2 Colonial League win over Lehighton.
Colton Ruzicka and Anderson Garcia-Escobar both registered straight-set victories for the Bombers, who also received a doubles win from the team of Kevin O’Neill and Chase Sebelin.
The Indians gained a singles win at No. 1 from Bekim Cokriljah.

Pleasant Valley remained undefeated by posting a 12-8 non-conference victory over Cardinal O’Hara.
Brielle Halamar paced the Bears with five goals, while Rylee Rath added three goals and three assists.
PV, which led by an 8-4 score at halftime, also received a pair of goals from Peyton Knecht.
Eva Marquis, Francesco Fazio and Penny Miller all finished with multiple goals for the Lions.
