A Brooklyn, New York, man faces identity theft and other charges in Mahoning Township.
James Rodriguez, 63, was arraigned by District Judge Beth Dodson in Lansford on charges of identity theft, tampering with records, theft by deception and forgery last week.
He was committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning in lieu of $75,000 bail.
According to the arrest papers, Rodriguez went to Mauch Chunk Trust Company on Blakeslee Boulevard last March, seeking a statement for an account belonging to Charles G. Riley.
Rodriguez presented bank staff with a driver’s license, but the photo indicated it was not the account holder when staff ran the name in its system, court papers said.
Staff took the photo identification to the bank manager, and Rodriguez left the bank and walked west on Blakeslee Boulevard.
The fictitious driver’s license was seized, and the actual bank customer was notified of the incident and confirmed that he did not authorize anyone to access his bank records, court papers aid.
State police troopers identified the man who entered the bank as Rodriguez and found that he was wanted for larceny in Massachusetts, identity theft in New Jersey and fraud in Pennsylvania.
