Annual basket raffle to benefit Cancer Telethon

The American Cancer Society will hold a basket raffle with hundreds of prizes Sunday from the Tamaqua Athletic Center.

The location at the Tamaqua Area High and Middle School complex is new this year, and will afford more space for the annual fundraising event.

The shop and drop gets underway Saturday from 5-7 p.m. for those who want to preview the items or drop tickets in advance.

Doors to the athletic center open at 11:30 a.m. Sunday with the drawing at 2:30 p.m.

Hundreds of prizes will line tables, including high-value “white ticket” items and additional high value “red ticket” items. Both white and red sections offer three tickets for a $1 donation.

Top “white ticket” prizes include $1,000 cash, Dell Inspiron laptop, fuel oil, Yamaha 5500 generator, lottery and concert tickets, gift certificates, 50-inch Roku television, a pizza a month for a year, whitewater rafting and skirmish, Highwood rocking chair, rustic wooden bench, Echo Show, massage and facial, Razor scooter and much more.

The red ticket prizes include power tools, baby items, outdoor and sports items and more.

A new highlight will be an online auction with vacation trips, 10-yard dumpster rental, Mauch Chunk Lake family membership, sports items and jewelry.

The new gymnasium location offers plenty of seating to hear winners drawn, or volunteers will contact winners by text or phone to pick up items at the telethon office in Lansford.

Credit card and debit card payments will be accepted; however, cash is accepted and preferred.

In addition, a delicious selection of food will be sold to enjoy inside or for take-out. Baked goods will also be available.

Polka Joe Manjack of WMGH’s “Magic Polka Machine” will broadcast live as he celebrates 52 years of polkas on the radio.

For more information, call 570-805-4555 or visit www.CancerTelethon.org/auction.

All proceeds will be presented at the annual American Cancer Society Telethon scheduled for noon to midnight on April 11 and 12 from Penn’s Peak. The event will be broadcast live on BRC-TV13, Service Electric and Pottsville Comcast TV.
