Kunkletown man accused of attacking relative
A 72-year-old Kunkletown man is accused of trying to strangle a family member during a confrontation at their home.
State police say the incident began earlier in the day March 9 in Whitehall Township. After that encounter, the victim returned to the home in Lower Towamensing Township around 5:20 p.m., accompanied by a boyfriend who remained in the vehicle while she went inside to gather personal belongings.
Court documents say Randolph Shipwash was already at the residence when she arrived.
The two argued about the earlier incident before the victim went upstairs to a bedroom.
She told police Shipwash forced his way into the room and grabbing her by the neck with both hands.
She said he squeezed so hard she struggled to breathe and began seeing spots.
She was able to push him off and the struggle moved into the hallway, where she said Shipwash grabbed her hair and tried to pull them toward the stairs.
The victim told police she broke free and ran out of the house to the waiting vehicle.
Investigators reported visible injuries, including abrasions and scratches on the victim’s arms, as well as red marks on her face and neck.
Photos and a short video taken shortly after the incident also documented those injuries.
Shipwash is charged with strangulation, simple assault and harassment. He is being held in Carbon County Correctional Facility on $45,000 cash bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled Wednesday before District Judge William J. Kissner in Palmerton.
