I-80 bridge work to shift traffic

A new traffic pattern will go into effect because of the I-80 Lehigh River Bridge Project in Carbon and Luzerne counties.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, in coordination with Bridging Pennsylvania Developers I, is advising motorists that the traffic switch will be implemented as early as 9 p.m. Saturday, weather permitting.

As part of Stage 2 of the project, I-80 eastbound traffic will be shifted to the right onto the new eastbound bridge.

After the eastbound traffic is shifted, there will be an approximate two-week delay until the I-80 westbound traffic will be shifted to the existing eastbound bridge via temporary median crossovers.

During this time, the I-80 eastbound on-ramp at Route 940 will remain closed, with an anticipated opening date of June.

Drivers should remain alert for changing traffic patterns, follow all posted signs and allow extra time when traveling through the area.

The project is part of the ongoing PennDOT Major Bridges P3 Program.

Bridging Pennsylvania Developers — I is led jointly by Shikun & Binui Ltd. and Macquarie Capital as lead project developers and equity members.

The Bridging Pennsylvania Constructors joint venture consortium includes the design and construction expertise of S&B USA Construction and FCC Construction.

S&B USA Construction is the construction arm of Shikun & Binui Ltd. and is the parent company of Fay, S&B USA Construction, one of the four BPC Major Bridge subcontractors.
