Kettle Creek hosting Maple Sugaring Days on March 7, 14

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced its Community Maple Sugaring Days for March 7 and March 14.

Environmental educators will share the history of pure maple syrup, how it is made and give attendees a taste of maple syrup on pancakes.

There will also be 90-minute tours of the sugarbush. The 90-minute time will focus on the history of maple syrup, from the Native Americans to the early settlers in this region.

Attendees will then learn how to “tap” a maple tree to obtain sap, and then watch as it is demonstrated how to cook the sap until it is sweet maple syrup.

People will then complete the tour at the pancake station, where the finished product is served over freshly made pancakes.

Preregistration is required by calling 570-629-3061. Participants may choose a time from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for their 90-minute tour.

There is a cost, although tree sponsors attend free of charge. When someone sponsor a tree via a donation of $25, they can receive free admission for up to four people.

Attendees are reminded to “dress appropriately for the weather including shoes appropriate for trail walking.”

The event is held at the Meesing Outdoor Site, 1254 Marshalls Creek Road, East Stroudsburg.

To register or for more information, call the Environmental Education Center at 570-629-3061 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or visit mcconservation.org.
