Tamaqua School Board

Tamaqua Area School Board heard a brief report from its superintendent before moving onto agenda items at its meeting Tuesday.

Superintendent Ray Kinder noted that the girls basketball team with take on North Schuylkill on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Martz Hall, Pottsville, for the District XI AAAA quarterfinals.

He also acknowledged Luke Frohnheiser being selected as a Schuylkill County Football Scholar, and the middle school art students’ work on painting a Liberty Bell celebrating America 250.

He also noted that the district will host the Schuylkill County Band on Feb. 28 at 1:30 p.m. for the 50th anniversary.

The board, in other business, approved:

• The agreement with Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank, Reading as a host site for product distribution.

• The Ski Club’s out-of-state trip to Killington, Vermont, March 6 to 8.

• Hiring Jacob Hartranft of Tamaqua as a full-time custodian at a rate of $12.50 an hour.

• Early graduation for an 11th-grade student and homebound instruction for a middle school student.

• A participation agreement with PHEAA for a student teacher support program.

• A change in graduation requirements, replacing the mandatory Computer Apps course with a mandatory Personal Finance course. This will be effective for the graduating Class of 2030.

• Hiring Aubrey Scott of Lehighton as an occupational therapist at a salary of $74,000.

• Hiring Anna Hanely of Barnesville, Ashley Brennan of Pottsville and Edward Braxmeier of Hellertown as substitute teachers.

• Giving professional status, or tenure, to Michael Ouly and Courtney Blaser, effective Feb. 17.

• Family medical leave for Amy Heffelfinger beginning about March 2 with a tentative return to work March 30, barring any unforeseen medical complications.

• Retirement of Amy Delpai, middle school mathematics teacher, effective the end of the school year.

• Tax report, tax exemptions, tax refunds and payment of bills of $1.624 million.

• The 2025 delinquent real estate, per capita and assessed occupation tax lists.

• The school photography with Professional School Photographics, three-year contract, effective July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2029.
