Retail strip planned at bowling site

A prime piece of property in Washington Township that formerly housed a bowling alley is for lease.

The 8,750-square-foot retail strip center at 8123 Route 873 located on the former Slate Bowl site is available.

Positioned along the highly-traveled Route 873, the over-2.5-acre property offers excellent visibility, strong road frontage, and easy access.

The development will feature 5 to 6 retail spaces ranging from about 1,400 to 1,800 square feet, suitable for a variety of retail and service uses.

Groundbreaking is scheduled for April 2026 with delivery anticipated September 2026.

The listing cites ample on-site parking will be provided for customers and employees, making this an ideal location for national, regional, or local tenants seeking high exposure in the Slatington/Washington Township market.

Michael Makhoul, realtor, The James Balliet Property Group — Keller Williams Real Estate, noted they just recently posted the property.

“We are in the process of receiving interest from a combination of local, regional and national credit tenants,” Makhoul said. “For commuters, we would like to see it serve as a good hub that serves the community’s interest with a diverse group of retailers.”

Makhoul said they are looking at five tenant spaces, one with a drive-thru.

“We are hoping to attract a diverse group of retailers that serves the community and their interest,” he said. “There will be ample parking.”

Makhoul said what was the former Slate Bowl is currently being utilized by a paving company, and added that building will not be there in the future.

“We are excited to see it serve as a hub for the community, providing them with retailers that meet their needs to and from their commutes with a mixture of food and beverage service-oriented retailers,” he said. “It’s going to be a great opportunity for the community there along that route.”

The former Slatington Bowling Center closed its doors in the spring of 2021 due to coronavirus.

Bill Reese, owner of the facility, thanked all those who supported the bowling center, which had been a fixture in the area for decades.

Reese said the bowling alley had been closed for about five months in 2020.

Reese said they had entered into a contract to sell the property in September 2020, and had closed the deal.

Additionally, the liquor license has been sold.
