Was there really a worldwide flood?

Do we have any evidence that there was once a worldwide flood?

First and foremost, we as Christians rely on our Holy Bible to be true and accurate (which it is).

Our God is the most authoritative eyewitness.

He created all things, upholds all things, and cannot lie. Skeptics question a lot of events that are recorded in the Old Testament, but the reason we can say that they are authoritative is because Jesus talked about them when he taught.

One example is Matthew 24:37-39. Putting this aside, what obvious observations do we have to validate such a catastrophe?

Let’s get started. We have over 200 worldwide legends about a worldwide flood from all walks of life. Aztec, Hawaiian, Chinese, Miao and Tanzania to name a few.

Every one of these records carry a common ground, that a worldwide flood covered the mountains and wiped out many and all the air breathing animals except Noah, his family, and the animals that were given shelter on a massive vessel that survived the catastrophe. (Not all legends use the name “Noah” as there were many variations of his name). Surprisingly, many of these legends were recorded by civilizations that lived in deserts or mountainous regions.

These views were widely accepted until the late 1700s and early 1800s, when the evolutionist views became popular and fallible man became determined to undermine the Genesis account and a biblical flood.

This is where the debates began. The Christian view of a young earth and a global flood is based on the Genesis account in our Bible. We have a very simple calculation.

The genealogy from the creation of Adam to Abraham is about 2,000 years. (Derived from the Masoretic Hebrew text). Abraham lived about 4,000 years ago. This puts the age of our earth and universe at roughly 6,000 years old.

The opposing view of evolution states that the earth is millions or maybe even billions of years old! Keep in mind that they are assuming this without any sound evidence that it is even true.

One claim they make is that the rock layers on earth containing fossils was laid down slowly over millions of years. They are basing this theory on current conditions here on earth which has no bearing on what may have happened in the past.

This view in their minds eliminates the idea of a catastrophic world flood that changed the structure of the earth in a very short period of time. For the record, fossil finds overwhelmingly support a rapid burial through a catastrophic event.

Another interesting observation is the Grand Canyon. Scientists have come to the conclusion that this massive erosion event happened in a short period of time, which would be completely in line with the receding of massive amounts of water after a global flood.

Just one of the clues we have is the change in structure of the exposed rock layers from time and the elements. Scientists have discovered that the rate of change and erosion of the canyon walls could never translate to millions of years.

They conclude that there has been very little change since the time it was carved. with our increasing knowledge in geology, evolutionary geologists still have no reasonable explanation for the formation of the Grand Canyon.

The headwaters of the Colorado River are at an extremely lower level than the Colorado plateau, proving that the river could not have carved the canyon.

Scientists have estimated that about one thousand cubic miles of material has been removed to form the canyon. If the Colorado River was responsible for this erosion, we should have a huge delta at the mouth of the river where it empties into the Gulf of California.

Surprisingly, very little material is found at the delta, which is more in line with thousands of years and not millions.

The cliffs of the canyon are mostly limestone and sandstone covered with a coating of desert varnish that eventually covers the rock and give the cliffs their stability.

Conclusion: We have overwhelming evidence to support a catastrophic global flood as described in our Holy Bible, yet people continually try to prove it wrong.

Every evolutionary view has been put to rest with plain common sense observations and study. In my studies, I personally have not come across even one evolutionary view that has any merit. They are always riddled with unsolved assumptions and their main goal is to discredit the Holy Bible.

One thing we have to remember is that no one has proved anything to be wrong in our Holy Bible. We are surrounded by skeptics that have tried with no avail.

The word of God is our refuge and our strength and has always proven itself to be trustworthy.

2 Timothy 3:16 states that all scripture is given by the inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
