The Pennsylvania State Police Troop N Major Case team released a report on the shooting Tuesday night in the area of 88 Route 940 in Kidder Township.
State police determined that officers from the Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle, which fled on Route 940 toward Carbon County,
Officers pursued the vehicle for approximately 8 miles.
The vehicle then stopped, voluntarily, and the driver got out the vehicle holding a handgun.
State police said the driver disregarded multiple commands to drop the gun, and then pointed the handgun towards PMRPD Officers. At this point, officers fired their weapons.
The suspect, a 23-year-old man who has not been named, was struck multiple times by gunfire.
He was transported to a hospital, where he is listed as in serious, but stable condition.
Criminal charges are pending.
As per Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department regulations, the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave.
