The members of the Carbon County Medical Society and their guests on Saturday night paid tribute to Winston E. Scherer of Palmerton, by presenting him the society’s Benjamin Rush Award.

Presentation of the plaque was made at a banquet held at the Mahoning Valley Country Club, rural Lehighton.

Scherer was honored for his extensive activities as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Heart Association and more recently as secretary of the Mid-Eastern Pennsylvania Heart Association and chairman of the Palmerton Heart Fund Drive.

The general manager of the Coca-Cola plant in Palmerton, Scherer is the co-chairman of the Palmerton Hospital Festival and Palmerton Hospital Building Fund.
