Pocono Chamber sponsors policy talk

The Pocono Chamber of Commerce held a public policy meeting recently, bringing together federal, state, county and municipal leaders to share updates on initiatives affecting organizations, residents, and communities across Monroe County and the surrounding region.

The key takeaways of the meeting include:

• Rising health care costs remain a top concern for local employers. U.S. Rep. Rob Bresnahan has voted to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits, currently moving to the Senate.

• State Rep. Maureen Madden highlighted new legislation providing permanent funding for Medication Assisted Treatment programs for incarcerated individuals with opioid use disorder; measures to empower municipalities in land-use decisions; and support for families taking in grandchildren affected by the opioid crisis.

• Municipal leaders reported grant-funded improvements, including water and sewer extensions; community parks; outdoor recreation facilities; and enhanced resident communication systems.

• Regional partners shared updates on economic development, housing, tourism and workforce initiatives, with Monroe County receiving multiple state grant awards supporting arts, infrastructure and community projects.

“The Chamber’s Public Policy meetings provide an important forum for connecting our region’s leaders, sharing vital updates and discussing initiatives that directly impact our communities,” said Sarah Wallace, director of the Pocono Chamber of Commerce.
