Monroe County commissioners discuss grants
The Monroe County commissioners approved the uses of some grants at their meeting on Wednesday and allowed the county’s fiscal director to sign for the contract for the Community Services Block Grants.
The Community Services Block Grant contract is effective from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, and the amount is yet to be determined annually by formula funding.
A resident asked the commissioners to explain why the amount is not known yet.
Commissioner John Christy, the chairman, said that the amount isn’t known because it is a formula function. “We have to see who applies and so on and so forth,” he said.
Jennifer Barclay, the fiscal director, added, “This has to do with the fact that (the state) give(s) out the contract in installments, so each time there’s an installment approved by the state, we have to sign for it. The total is to be determined, but the initial installment has already been approved.”
Christy said, “We get the initial and if there’s additional moneys or anything else, then what we do is we get together and allocate whose getting what from the group that decides that, and (Barclay) is authorized to sign for it and send it out.”
Other grant uses covered by the commissioners include:
• Approved Opioid Grant in the amount of $15,000 from the Opioid Settlement Funds to Path to Peace for housing assistance.
• Acknowledge the final Fiscal Year 2024-2025 Medical Assistance Transportation Program allocation of $575,925.
• Acknowledge the initial Fiscal Year 2025-2026 Medical Assistance Transportation Program allocation of $749,112.
