Tamaqua Area School Board will advertise for proposals for $3 million in infrastructure improvements as part of an investment-grade energy audit under Act 163.
The district stands to reap $2 million in energy savings over 20 years through the investment in needed district improvements, such as boiler and chiller upgrades at the middle school and various lighting projects.
The McClure Company of Harrisburg presented the Guaranteed Energy Savings Project to the district earlier this month, and the board on Tuesday approved advertising for proposals from energy service companies.
The district has a history with McClure on other energy projects, such its geothermal system and HVAC work at the high school.
The board could approve a contract next month for the overall project, which includes the middle school boiler and chiller upgrades, LED lighting retrofits for the middle school, high school and both elementary schools, and new high school pool unit.
Work on the upgrades could begin as soon as this summer, if the board moves ahead on the schedule provided by McClure. Some of the equipment, such as the chiller and pool unit, have lead times of 20-22 weeks, the company said.
