Lansford Borough Council approves items
Lansford Borough Council last week acted on the following items:
• Ratified a legal advertisement on changes to the oversized vehicle ordinance.
• Paid bills totaling $162,376.24.
• Appointed Brian Kelly, CPA, to perform the annual audit for the borough at a cost of $9,500. Councilman Bruce Markovich voted no, saying the firm takes too long to perform the work. Council members noted that there is legislation that requires audits to be complete by June 30, and that information will be relayed to the firm.
• Approved borough solicitor Bob Yurchak to review a list of grants from the Jan. 5 special meeting agenda to check status and what action the borough needs to take moving forward. Former council President Bruce Markovich, who had written and kept track of the grants and served as contact person, told council members, “I’m done with that,” when asked if he’d continue.
• Granted a business parking space to the American Cancer Society on West Ridge Street, provided the organization pays the fee associated with the parking space.
• Advertised for bids on the former borough garage and associated vacant lot on Spring Street with no minimum bids, due by council’s March’s meeting.
• Tabled handicapped parking requests.
• Approved a resolution for the Lansford Uniform Construction Code fee schedule.
• Tabled sending 2025 uncollected borough delinquent taxes to Portnoff Law. There are 405 delinquents.
• Approved 2026 spring cleanup date as April 25 for the east side of town, and May 2 for the west side of town.
• Transfer $20,000 from the sale of the zipper to Liquid Fuels fund, which was originally used for the purchase.
• Approved the purchase of portable hot and cold pressure washer at a cost of $1,510.
• Approved having ARRO Engineering, the borough engineer, inspect the demolition project at 151 and 151½ W. Ridge St. The Community Development Block Grant project was completed by the contractor.
• Reappointed ARRO Engineering as zoning officer. Councilman Joe Butrie was opposed.
• Appointed Council Vice President Joe Genits to serve on the Carbon County Council of Governments.
• Directed the solicitor to send a letter to residents with sewer cleanouts on their properties along West Water Street where there has been a sewer blockage. The borough wants to remind them to secure the cleanouts, which kids have been throwing rocks into, or the borough will secure them and send a bill for the work.
