School concert
The Pleasant Valley fourth grade chorus concert will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Valley Intermediate.
Hope butterflies
From AltruVision, a Lions Eye Bank, comes a special invitation: children and teens under 18 years old are invited to join the Butterflies of Hope art contest.
The butterfly, a symbol of “hope and transformation,” is the theme of the contest.
As such, youth under the age of 18 are invited “to create original butterfly-themed artwork representing hope, transformation, and joy.”
The winning artwork will become the “limited-edition AltruVision Butterfly Design, featured on AltruVision merchandise, this coming spring.”
Submissions close Feb 6.

Church notice
All parishioners at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, are reminded that there will be no religious education this coming Sunday. However, the Mass schedule will remain the same.
Impact of cold
“How cold weather affects joints and mobility” will be a featured topic at the Chestnuthill Senior Center at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville at 10:30 a.m. Friday.

Farm Show
The Pennsylvania Farm Show is concluding Saturday.
Hours through Friday are 8 a.m.-9 p.m. On Saturday, closing day, it will open at 8 a.m. but close at 5 p.m.
Admission is free, but there is a parking fee if using the Farm Show Complex. Shuttle service is available.
Information about many entities will be available, including about how to become a Pennsylvania game warden. That will be possible from 5-7 p.m. today and 10 a.m.-noon Saturday.
Grief Share
Mount Eaton Church, Saylorsburg, hosts a Grief Share meeting Sundays from 2-4 p.m. To verify the meeting’s happening, call the church at 570-992-7050.
Holiday closures
• The Monroe County Area Agency on Aging office and all its senior centers, including the group that meets at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville, will be closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
• There is no school for Pleasant Valley students, as all schools are closed for the MLK holiday.
Monday bingo
It’s Monday Night Bingo at the West End Memorial Legion Post 927 in Gilbert every Monday, as sponsored by the Legion Auxiliary. Card sales begin at 6:30 p.m. Games begin at 7 p.m.
Knit and crochet
• Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl group will meet at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
• Zion Lutheran’s group will knit and crochet on Tuesday beginning at 1 p.m.
They meet the second and fourth Tuesday of the month.
Community lunch
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, has a community luncheon after the 12:10 p.m. Mass on the first and third Monday of each month.
Soup sale
Effort UMC is holding another soup sale. Being offered are cheeseburger soup, and ham and bean. Orders are due by Jan. 21. Pickup is Jan. 25.

Free dinner
Zion Lutheran is holding its drive-thru pickup free community dinner from 5-6 p.m. Jan. 21.
The menu is spaghetti with sausage, tossed salad, dessert and a bottle of water.
Christian unity
This year’s annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity will be observed from Jan. 19-23.
A service, which will be joined by other denominations, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 22 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville.
It will celebrate this year’s theme: “There is one body and one spirit, just as you are called to the one hope of your calling.” (Ephesians 4:4)
The prayer service will be followed with a light lunch in McCawley Hall at 11:30 a.m.
SFRC hours
The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC is slated to be open from 10 a.m.-noon Jan. 24.

Habitat appeal
Monroe County Habitat for Humanity is concluding its 2025 appeal on Jan. 31.

Stromboli time
Effort UMC is holding a stromboli sale to benefit the Youth Missions team for its upcoming mission trip to Wallingford, Connecticut.
Three types are being offered: broccoli and cheese, pepperoni and cheese, and cheesesteak.

Glaucoma awareness
January is Glaucoma Awareness Month.
Using information obtained from the Glaucoma Research Foundation and the National Eye Institute, the Monroe County Area Agency Aging on Aging encourages all older adults “to get a comprehensive dilated eye exam; this is how the disease is detected and diagnosed.”

Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County has announced the end of its 2025 Annual Appeal as of Jan. 31.
Block shoot set
The Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club is holding a block shoot and meat raffle beginning at 11 a.m. Feb. at 122 Gun Club Lane in Saylorsburg.
It is a 12-gauge shotgun only event. The public is welcome.
